DJI Osmo Action 5 review: Low-light legend with top-tier image quality
Arguably DJI’s biggest party trick with the latest camera is its new SuperNight mode, which allows for fantastically detailed video in low light situations. With a frankly ridiculous 100-25,600 ISO range, it’s also possible to capture pretty decent imagery in the dark, although expect noise at the very top end of that spectrum.
DJI's Osmo Action 5 Pro could put mirrorless cameras on notice
As mentioned, DJI says the Action 5 Pro has a 13.5-stop dynamic range. Since many mirrorless cameras tend to range from 12 to 15 stops, it’s an impressive specification coming from an action camera with a much smaller 1/1.3" sensor -- though it's worth noting the Action 5 Pro's sensor is larger than the GoPro Hero 13’s 1/1.9-inch sensor.
GoPro is still too big a household name for the DJI Osmo Action 5 to compete
The recent Osmo Action 5 leaks reinforce this: with an upgraded sensor and improved battery life, DJI is often the go-to choice of professionals rather than amateurs. But a higher price point alienates a larger audience: better cameras being passed over for a more recognizable brand.
With magnetic mounting and a new set of modular lenses, the GoPro Hero 13 Black is the first upgrade in a while to bring something new to the table.
